Authorities report finding a woman’s body close to the scene of the coast plane crash at Half Moon Bay.

The Federal Aviation Administration said on Monday that two persons were on a plane that crashed on Sunday night off the coast of Half Moon Bay.

A commercial fishing boat near the crash site discovered a woman’s body in the water while searching for survivors, according to a statement released by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office on Monday afternoon.

The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office received her.

“The identity of this female adult is still being determined, but it is thought she is likely associated with the plane crash given she was located in the same location.”

The Coast Guard reported at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday that they had finished their search for survivors paused their investigation.

The plane took off from the East Bay and was discovered upside down in the water close to Ross Cove, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a Coast Guard spokesperson, teams used a boat and a helicopter to search an area of about 28 square miles for almost six hours.

“The Sector San Francisco Command Center’s Ian McGoohan, the operations unit controller, expressed his deepest sympathies to the families involved in this incident.

It’s never easy to make the decision to suspend search efforts.”

“We sincerely appreciate all of the work that our partners supporting the search operations.”

There are still pieces of the plane wreckage being recovered; one piece is located right off Ross Cove.

Authorities claim the plane originated at an East Bay airport, but they are still investigating the precise location of the aircraft’s initial takeoff.

Furthermore, it’s unclear if the pilot attempted to land at the airport in Half Moon Bay.

“I ran to my window facing the ocean, and I could see that the plane was turning around, and it was losing altitude,” stated Michelle Weil.

Although planes are frequently seen in the area, Weil, who lives close to the Moss Beach Distillery, said what she heard on Sunday was unusual.

“I looked out the window when I heard this one because it was really loud, and it was extremely loud, and when I peered out the window, I noticed that it was flying in a different direction and at a much lower altitude than usual,” she remarked.

According to neighbors, the plane was not close to the airport’s flight path.

“It was out of the path of the flight, by the time I heard it, it had to have been, there’s no way because planes don’t fly over my house and that plane was right by there so I’m pretty sure he was looking for help quick, or she,” Diana Fernandez, who lives in Half Moon Bay, said.

According to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, the call was initially made on Sunday night just before seven o’clock by someone who saw the plane at the Moss Beach Distillery Sputtering and flying wildly, then out of sight over the horizon.

“We heard this motor engine puttering like you hear in the movies when a plane is about to crash and you hear the engine and it came around the corner, it’s kind of a biplane, very visible,” Melissa Richter, a witness, stated.

“We figured something was wrong because it was so close to the restaurant.”

Until about 8:30 p.m., when they discovered the small plane in the water without passengers, crews launched drones and the Coast Guard promptly sent a diver into the water.

“The plane was actually upside down in the water, and this morning (Monday), the emergency services bureau and about 30 volunteers in search and rescue are starting to see according to Sgt.

Philip Hallworth, a spokesman for the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, “some of that wreckage come up onto the coastline.”

Due to poor visibility and high tides, Sgt. Hallworth says their search and rescue team decided at midnight that they couldn’t get out there just yet. They decided to resume their efforts as early as possible on Monday morning, at 5 a.m.

“What’s making some of this more difficult is just the status of the tides, the tides have been really high but there’s drones out there, the coast guard’s assisting,” he stated.

Ross Sagun flew for more than 40 years as a commercial pilot out of SFO.

“My heart bleeds for the families. I could only picture how I might feel,” Sagun uttered.

The aircraft registered in this crash was a single-engine Cozy Mark IV, which is classified as “amateur built.”

It’s not clear if the passengers were the aircraft’s registered owners.

“The owner, who also acts as the builder, is in charge of maintaining the aircraft and building it. They follow very lax regulations.

It carries four people, has a top speed of 200 miles per hour, and costs roughly $30,000 to construct, not including the engine, Sagun added.

According to Sagun, the weather, the aircraft, and air traffic control recordings will all be examined by the investigators.

Among the queries was whether a mayday call was ever made.

It may imply that whatever took place actually did happen in a hurry, and in those kinds of situations, the pilot occasionally lacks the time to send out a mayday call,” Sagun stated.

Currently conducting investigations are several agencies, such as the NTSB and the FAA.

The California Highway Patrol Helicopter aircrew, the San Mateo Fire Department, and the San Mateo Police Department were among the organizations that helped with the search.
