DeSantis attacks Trump immediately after endorsing him.

Even though Florida Governor Ron DeSantis supported the former president Trump, his comments since withdrawing from the GOP presidential contest on Sunday imply that their intense rivalry is far from ended.

What matters is that most Republicans who have experienced periods of Trump skepticism or opposition—including presidential contenders this cycle—end up “kissing the ring,” as DeSantis put it.

Among the most recent examples are Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), and Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.).
However, DeSantis’s campaign was derailed by Trump and his allies’ unrelenting, frequently highly personal attacks, and it seems that the wounds are still too fresh to heal.

Creating the news: Merely a day following graduation of the contest, DeSantis declared in public that he would veto a Republican plan authorizing the use of Florida tax money to cover Trump’s legal expenses.

DeSantis made an appearance on “The Steve Deace Show” on Tuesday to raise concerns about the candidate he recently endorsed, just as the New Hampshire primary is about to take place and determine whether Trump will easily win the nomination.

The governor of Florida asserted that the “corporate media” had “flipped” to warning of President Biden’s weaknesses, following months of praising Trump as a “juggernaut” who will defeat the former president.

What they’re saying: “I believe that people’s belief that the outcome is certain contributed to the low turnout in Iowa,” stated DeSantis.

“Trump’s lead in the polls is so large that he has the designation.”

He went on, citing lifelong conservatives he spoke to who said they couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Trump again. “It’s a huge warning sign for Republicans nationally, based on what we saw in Iowa,” he said.

He must therefore find a solution to that. Overall, I believe there is a problem with enthusiasm.”

DeSantis questioned the predictions of certain experts regarding New Hampshire, stating that there would be “record turnout.”

“To the extent that turnout’s up, it’s probably going to be up amongst the more liberal voters who are coming out,” DeSantis said.

He continued by criticizing Trump’s response to the COVID pandemic and bemoaning the fact that “no one else wanted to talk about” it during the campaign.

This was among the largest happenings in our lives.

And yet, during his interviews, no one would even question the candidate who had served as president at the beginning of the process!”

The twist: DeSantis spared no blows when criticizing his erstwhile Republican colleagues in Congress for what he referred to as “failure theater.”

“Republicans took control of the House in 2022,’ I would always ask audiences.

Have you observed any changes in the current situation? And nobody ever raised their hand to tell me that things were better as a result,” he remarked.

Republicans in Congress have overwhelmingly backed Trump, and more are likely to do so in the wake of New Hampshire.

Observations: DeSantis, a 45-year-old who will govern Florida until 2026, he was questioned about his potential to run for president in 2028.

“We’ll see what kind — if we have a country left by 2028,” he joked.

“I viewed ’24 as really a hinge point in American history, and if we don’t get it right, I don’t know what it’s going to look like in the future.”
