Body camera footage reveals that during an Ohio police raid, flash-bangs were used against a toddler who was in the home on a ventilator.

According to recently released body-worn camera footage, police in Elyria, Ohio, used exploding flash-bangs during a raid last week while a toddler on a ventilator was inside. The mother claims her child was hurt during the incident.

The office of Elyria Mayor Kevin Brubaker released footage from eight officers’ body cams on Tuesday. The office has asked for an outside investigation into the events of January 10 and the process by which the search warrant for the residence was acquired.

According to a police report the city released on Tuesday, the warrant was served as part of an ongoing investigation involving multiple stolen guns found at another residence.

The mother recognized courtney Price, who was captured on camera wearing a body cam, informed WOIO, a CNN affiliate, that her son Waylon had been diagnosed with chemical pneumonitis, a type of lung irritation, following the raid. According to Price, the illness was brought on by breathing in chemicals that the flash bangs released.

The devices “do not produce a continuous burn and they do not deploy or contain any pepper gas or chemical agents,” according to a police release.

The Elyria Police Department stated in a release that “any allegation suggesting the child was exposed to chemical agents, lack of medical attention, or negligence is not true.”

In the video, just after 2:00 p.m., police officers are seen lining up outside the residence, and one of them yells, “Police search warrant, come to the door!”

After ten or so seconds, an officer breaks one of the windows with a flash-bang that he set off with a pole outside. According to the police report, “This method of delivery was controlled and intended as a deliberate distraction,” another flash-bang was also set off in the driveway.

The mother then emerged from the house with her hands raised as the officers met her outside the front door using a battering ram, as seen in the video.

The body camera footage hides her face. After being handcuffed, she is heard telling the police that she is staying with her aunt and uncle and that the house belongs to them.

The woman says in one of the videos that she and her child are the only ones in the house at that moment. She informs the police that her child is inside on a ventilator due to a pre-existing medical condition.

The child is discovered in a baby bouncer next to a crib by a home search team member, and the footage indicates that the sound of medical equipment is audible.

Later, after being taken upstairs, the woman discusses her child’s condition with the officers.

According to the police statement, the home contained a woman and her 17-month-old child.

According to the statement, the mother, detectives, and paramedics “assessed the condition of the child, confirming that the child did not sustain any apparent, visible injuries.”

The youngster was far from the broken window and connected to multiple machines, according to the according to the police report, the child seemed “not harmed.”

In documents the city released, the mother’s and child’s names were redacted.

Price, 25, identified herself as the person who spoke with police inside the residence, according to WOIO.

Redia Jennings, her aunt, informed the affiliate that she and her husband have been renting the house for the previous 12 months.

Jennings resides at the address that the police raided, according to property records that CNN was able to obtain.

Price reported that she was taken aback by the raid’s events, which included lights flashing, smoke filling the house, and police entering through the front door.

Price told the affiliate, “I didn’t know what to do because there were guns pointed at me.” “Although I wanted to run to my son,” knew they might have shot me if I had run to him.

According to Jennings, the teenager that the police were searching for had not resided at the house for over a year, but they had visited it roughly five times in the process.

An officer can be heard in one of the videos asking, “Is there just one chick in there and a baby?” and another policeman says, “I guess so.” The school was the target.

The mayor has requested that the incident and the manner in which the warrant was obtained be looked into by the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

Mayor Brubaker stated, “Although the videotape amply demonstrates what happened and did not happen when the search warrant was carried out, it does not address questions of what led to the warrant itself.”

Jennings revealed WOIO that the family is moving to a new house this week and intends to file a lawsuit against the police department.

Courtney Price, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, and Mayor Brubaker have all been contacted by CNN.
