During his presidency, Trump’s companies received at least $7.8 million in foreign payments, according to House Democrats.
According to a new report by House Democrats, Donald Trump’s businesses received payments totaling at least $7.8 million from foreign governments and government-backed entities from 20 different countries during his tenure in office.
Democratic staffers on the House Oversight Committee released their 156-page report titled “White House for Sale: How Princes, Prime Ministers, and Premiers Paid Off President Trump” on Thursday.

The report was based on 451 pages of documents that were obtained from Trump’s longtime accounting firm Mazars and a federal agency.
The documents, according to the report, “demonstrate that four Trump-owned properties together collected, at the least, millions of dollars in payments from foreign governments and officials.” Democrats claimed that these
The Foreign Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, which forbids federal officials from accepting gifts or other benefits from foreign nations without congressional approval, was broken by the payments.

The top Democrat on the committee, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, stated, “This report sets forth the records showing foreign government money — and all the spoils from royals we can find — pouring into hotels and buildings that the President continued to own during his presidency, all in direct violation of the Constitutional prohibition.”
Republicans pointed out that the amount of financial records they could examine was restricted and that “the foreign payments to President Trump identified in this report are likely only a small fraction of the total amount of such payments he received during his presidency.”

Where did the payments originated with the payments to four Trump-owned companies—the Trump hotels in New York, Las Vegas, and Washington, as well as Trump Tower in Manhattan—are the subject of the Democratic report.
Trump refused to sell his holdings and kept “personal ownership and control of all his businesses, as well as the ability to draw funds from them without any outside disclosure,” the report claimed, even though he gave his sons day-to-day management of his companies when he took office in 2017.

This arrangement, according to Democrats, “reinforced (rather than severed) his ties to his businesses and enabled him to prioritize his personal interests over those of the nation.”
