Although his administration removed the Houthis’ classification as a “terrorist group,” President Joe Biden says he thinks the group should be reclassified.
When asked if he was willing to classify the Houthis as a terrorist organization, Biden responded, “I think they are.”
Later, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Biden told reporters that it doesn’t matter if his administration formally designates that position. He declared that the US and other countries would react to their attacks in the Red Sea in any way.

“Whether they are designated or not is irrelevant,” stated Biden. “We’ve put together a group of nations that are going to say if they continue to act and behave as they do, we’ll respond,” he stated.
Concerned about certain Democrats who stated instead of requesting congressional approval for the strikes, Biden should have politely dismissed their concerns.
“They’re wrong and I sent up this morning when the strikes occurred exactly what happened,” he stated.

Background: The Trump administration’s last-minute decision to classify the Houthi rebels in Yemen as a foreign terrorist organization was reversed by the Biden administration in 2021.
The White House stated earlier on Friday that it was considering designating the Houthis as terrorists.

The spokesperson for the national security council, John Kirby, stated that no decisions had been made and that he was unable to estimate the length of time the review would take.
