According to a recent court order, two Georgia election workers who were harmed by Rudy Giuliani’s defamatory remarks about them after the 2020 election and were recently awarded nearly $150 million by a jury may start collecting from him right away.

Normally, the women who had successfully sued Giuliani would have to wait 30 days before pursuing their claims to his property in other states.

However, the DC District Court’s Judge Beryl Howell, who presided over the well-publicized trial last week, allowed the lawyers for Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman to try collecting on Wednesday.

Howell pointed out that Giuliani had escaped by demonstrating his value by declining to turn over evidence he had, in the case that went to trial, consistently claimed he was broke and that the verdict would badly harm him, never acknowledged earlier court orders requiring him to pay the women’s legal fees, and yet had support in recent months.

On December 15, 2023, in Washington, DC, Georgian election workers Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss converse outside the E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. District Courthouse.

Howell stated in the opinion on Wednesday that Giuliani’s continuous failure to answer to the plaintiffs’ requests for discovery prevented the plaintiffs from verifying the accuracy of Giuliani’s purported “financial difficulties.

” Even if Giuliani’s “financial difficulties” are repeatedly made, made public, and appropriately covered by the media, it is difficult to reconcile that with the reality that Giuliani can afford a spokeswoman who went to trial with him every day.

According to court documents, Giuliani’s assets in Florida and New York, including properties in both states, have already been identified by Moss and Freeman’s team.

In addition to his other media appearances, Moss and Freeman’s lawyers have mentioned that he has a new deal for a Newsmax streaming show that could indicate some income, and that his New York co-op apartment is listed for sale for more than $6.1 million.

This summer, the former mayor of New York City was found guilty of defaming Freeman and Moss after neglecting to answer certain aspects of their lawsuit.

In their lawsuit, the mother and daughter stated that they had experienced emotional distress, damage to their reputation, and had their Giuliani made over a dozen false and defamatory statements about them, alleging the women had tampered with the votes while they were being counted.
