A 44-year-old Boston woman was killed by a shark attack in the Bahamas while on vacation.
Bahamas’ Nassau On Monday morning, a Massachusetts woman lost her life after being attacked by a shark while paddle boarding in the Bahamas.
A 44-year-old Bostonian woman was on vacation with a male relative at the Sandals Royal Bahamian resort in Nassau, Bahamas, according to the police report that Boston 25 was able to obtain.
According to the police, the woman was bitten by a shark while paddle boarding with her relative away from the shoreline at the back of a resort in western New Providence.
The woman and her relative were rescued by boat by an on-duty lifeguard.
They performed CPR on the victim. But she sustained severe wounds to her right side of the body, including the right hip area in addition to her right upper limb, according to the police.
According to police, the local woman was declared dead at the scene.
At present, the woman’s identity remains undisclosed.
The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries’ Greg Skomal, a shark biologist, is currently investigating the cause of this attack.
Skomal said to Boston 25 that “what we would try to get as much information that would try to give us a sense of why this happened.”
This is the nation’s third fatal shark attack since September 2022. A German woman went missing just two weeks ago while diving and encountered a shark. A 58-year-old American woman perished in a shark attack in September 2022 while snorkeling with her family in the New Providence waters.

“A few species have been linked to attacks in the Bahamas, including the tiger and bull shark,” Skomal stated.
Skomal cautions anyone visiting areas that may be home to shark infestations to be alert for possible prey, stay close to shore, and become knowledgeable about potential dangers below.
“People needed to be educated about these things and they are things to be taken seriously,” he continued.
The investigation is still active and ongoing.
