Authorities believed Anthony Polito, the gunman at UNLV, to be a bystander during the shooting; a new bodycam footage reveals otherwise.

According to recently released bodycam footage, police who were responding to the mass shooting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, believed the insane gunman to be a bystander and encouraged him to leave, just before there was a shootout with police outside.

Following the horrifying massacre on December 6, a Las Vegas police officer can be heard yelling at professor Anthony Polito from the school’s second-floor balcony, “Get out, get out!”

Polito, 67, briskly walked by, heading for the door and his final shootout with the police. He was wearing a long, black trench coat, with one hand visible at his side Polito said nothing.

The brief sighting is tucked away among more than the Las Vegas Metro Police Department this week released five hours of bodycam footage from the shooting that claimed the lives of three UNLV professors and injured another.

In the video, police can be seen swarming the campus shortly after gunfire started at 11:45 a.m. and searching the hallways and stairwells for the active shooter.

One cop says, “Be careful, be careful.” Take your time.

As they made their way down a hallway with alarms blaring in the background, he said, “Watch the doors.” “Continue to observe the doors… He is still going strong. Exercise caution. He is still going strong.

A police officer once states that “the suspect is down,” but the enormous building was still being searched, and staff members and students were occasionally discovered cowering in classrooms.

In one gloomy conversation, an officer says to another, “There are a lot of bodies in here.” All the f-king floors.

Three UNLV educators, Patricia Navarro Velez, 39; Cha Jan “Jerry” Chang, 64; and Naoko Takemaru, 69, were reportedly killed during the shooting spree, according to the police.

The identity of the 38-year-old professor who sustained injuries is unknown.

When Polito stormed onto the campus, according to Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill, he had a 9 mm handgun and nine magazines holding more than 150 rounds.

According to WPLG-TV News, the gunman had been rejected for a teaching position at the institution, was “struggling financially,” and had a list of UNLV faculty members on his “target list.”

The Associated Press was informed by County Undersheriff Andrew Walsh that Polito was brushed by police when they were searching the campus building, but they were unable to identify him as the murderer.

Walsh stated, “At the time, they don’t have a description of the shooter.” Additionally, they are aware that the first floor has additional police sources.
