Forecasters predicted that strong winds and subfreezing temperatures would result in icy roads and poor visibility through the early hours of Wednesday gusts reaching up to 55 mph, as per the National Weather Service Acknowledgment: NOAA
Early on Tuesday, blizzard or ice storm warnings were still in effect for over a million people in the Northern and Central Plains due to hazardous driving conditions brought on by heavy snow, freezing rain, and strong winds. According to forecasters, these conditions could persist until early Wednesday.

Parts of South Dakota and Nebraska had received up to four inches of snow as of early Tuesday, although severe winds hindered the ability to obtain precise measurements, according to Amanda Viken, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s North Platte, Nebraska office.
A few communities in South Dakota’s southeast according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the area had accumulated up to one foot of snow since Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, up to four more inches of snow were predicted for western South Dakota, western Nebraska, far eastern Wyoming, and northeastern Colorado through Tuesday night.
Forecasters warned that freezing temperatures and strong winds could result in icy roads and whiteout conditions throughout the day in areas where snowfall had ceased or slowed.
