Ex-County :1Clerk Held Responsible Elections
Ex-county clerk held responsible for meddling in elections.
Following the 2020 presidential election, a former Colorado county election officer was found guilty on Monday of interfering with voting equipment.
In the election interference case, a jury convicted Republican Tina Peters, the former Mesa County Clerk, guilty on seven of the ten counts.
Election skeptics, who erroneously think that the 2020 presidential election was rigged against former President Donald Trump, are well-acquainted with Peters.
In 2022, Peters entered a not guilty plea to every charge.
This is the first instance in which a municipal election official has been charged in relation to a possible security lapse that occurred during the 2020 election.
Secretary of State of Colorado Jena Griswold released a statement claiming that “Tina Peters willfully compromised her own election equipment trying to prove Trump’s Big Lie.”
“The decision today conveys a strong message: any attempt to jeopardize the integrity of our gold standard elections will not be tolerated,” she continued.
Before rendering its decision on Monday, the jury pondered for more than four hours. Felonies make up four of the seven charges on which Peters was found guilty.
Three counts of attempting to influence a public servant, one count of conspiring to commit criminal impersonation, first-degree official misconduct, duty violations, and disobedience to the secretary of state were all found against the former county clerk.

According to the indictment, prosecutors claim that Peters participated in “a deceptive scheme which was designed to influence public servants, breach security protocols, exceed permissible access to voting equipment and set in motion the eventual distribution of confidential information to unauthorized people.”
Attorneys claimed that Peters assisted in breaking into the county’s election computer systems, giving an unauthorized person access to voting supplies and election data.
The individual uploaded pictures of safe voting apparatus online.
Prosecutors stated that Peters got “fixated” on voting issues following the 2020 presidential election, which some people mistakenly think was rigged against Trump.
In relation to Peters’ case, investigators also obtained a search warrant for Mike Lindell, the founder of MyPillow and a key figure in allegations of election fraud, according to CBS News, the BBC’s American partner.
On October 3, Peters is scheduled to be sentenced. Her lawyer was not available for comment.
