According to Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken, the suspect left the gun behind and fled on foot from the scene.

According to Balken, the shooting happened in a “common area” of the Paddock Mall on Saturday at approximately 3:40 p.m. local time.

A man known only as David Nathaniel Barron, 40, was killed and a woman’s leg was shot by a bullet.

According to investigators, Barron was probably the target.

According to police, the shooting at the mall also injured a number of other people. A broken arm was reported by one person, and chest pain by another.

The gunman, according to the police, had a red hat on. Authorities reported on Sunday afternoon that the hat had been removed from the scene.

“We need that hat back because it may contain valuable DNA evidence,” the Ocala police said. We implore you to act honorably and come forward right now. There is not much time left.”

The Ocala Police Department threatened to release a photo of the person who took the hat if it was not returned right away.
