The Florida Republican Party has censured embattled Chair Christian Ziegler over allegations of rape.
Amidst an ongoing investigation into a rape allegation against its chair, Christian Ziegler, the Florida Republican Party on Sunday formally censured and demanded his resignation.
Republican Party of Florida executive board members voted in favor of motions to remove Ziegler’s authority, cut his pay to $1, stop paying for his travel, and censure him at a special meeting, according to Michael Thompson, the chairman of the Lee County GOP, who provided updates from the meeting on X, the former name of Twitter.
Christian Ziegler’s actions make him unfit to hold the position of Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, as the party “has lost confidence in him.”
The motion of censure stated, “Christian Ziegler’s ability to effectively lead our party.”
Therefore, the Florida GOP executive board “hereby formally censures Christian Ziegler and requests his immediate resignation as Chairman for the benefit of the Republican Party of Florida,” the statement reads.
Ziegler attempted to defend himself during the meeting, Thompson claimed on X, writing from within that “Ziegler on soap box trying to defend himself,” but he was “not working.”
The resolution follows an October 2 accusation by a woman, whose name is withheld in police records, that Ziegler had forced his way into her apartment and raped her.

Prior to this, Ziegler and his spouse, Moms for Liberty co-founder Bridget Ziegler, had a voluntary sexual relationship with the woman, as per police reports.
Ziegler has not been charged with any crimes and has refuted the rape allegation Sen.
Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is also a GOP primary contender for president in 2024, are among the prominent Florida Republicans who have previously called for his resignation in response to the accusation.
The Florida GOP executive board implied in the censure resolution that Ziegler was a diversion before the 2024 election.

“Christian Ziegler’s behavior and actions have damaged the Republican Party of Florida’s reputation, jeopardized its stability, and made it more difficult for the group to carry out its mandate to uphold the Republican Party’s ideals, goals, and principles.
The motion of censure stated, “and ensure the election of all duly nominated Republican candidates.”
The motion further stated that the Executive Board “has lost confidence in Christian Ziegler’s ability to effectively lead” the party and that Ziegler “has not been forthright and honest” with the Florida GOP.
The motion said, “To defeat the Democrats and Joe Biden, our party must devote its full and undivided attention to the most important elections of our lifetime—the 2024 elections.”
