After searching “a large pile of debris,” which was up to 12 feet high in some places, the FDNY reported around 10:20 p.m. that it had not discovered any trapped victims. There were two individuals who had minor injuries in the building’s evacuation procedure, according to the FDNY.
Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh wrote on X, “Miraculously, no one was severely injured at the partial building collapse at 1915 Billingsley Terrace.” “From looking at the scene and surveillance footage, it could have been so much worse.”
Just a few blocks from the Major Deegan Expressway, at Phelan Place and West Burnside Avenue in the Morris Heights neighborhood, emergency personnel sped to the scene after 3:30 p.m.

According to building resident Angel Soto, “the ground was shaking,” Telemundo 47 reported. “I mistook that for an earthquake. It’s trembling on the ground, I told Mom. The super is like, ‘No, the building is collapsing,’ when we open it. We must leave right away.”
According to FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh’s earlier statement, they are “deeply concerned that there may be people trapped under the debris.”

Based on records from the Buildings Department, the building houses close to fifty apartments. The city was parking buses close to the building so that residents could get warmth, and residents were being referred to a school for assistance.
The NYPD advised the public to stay away from the area in an advisory.
In the meantime, buses in both directions were rerouted by the MTA in the vicinity of West Burnside Avenue.
The FDNY activity caused a temporary suspension of Metro-North Hudson Line service between Grand Central and Spuy ten Duyvil; service was eventually resumed, albeit with delays.
