Lakewood Church Joel Osteen Texas megachurch shooting claims the life of an armed woman.
In a packed Texas megachurch, a woman wearing a trench coat and carrying a child opened fire before being shot and killed by security personnel, according to officials.
The 36-year-old suspect, identified by the police as Genesse Ivonne Moreno, was in the Houston shootout with her seven-year-old son, who suffered serious injuries.
Investigators claimed to have found antisemitic writings and that the attacker had written “Palestine” on the butt of her rifle.
However, they claimed it’s unclear why.
Following the incident, a 57-year-old man who had been shot in the hip was released from the hospital.
He is presently “fighting for his life” after the gunwoman’s son, who isn’t named, was shot in the head during the gunfight stated the police.
Who shot the boy is a mystery.
The first gunshots were heard during a live streamed service at the church. Initially, Pastor Jorge Basave proceeded with the recording, stating to the Houston Chronicle that his intention was to convey serenity.
“I was worried my fear would be contagious,” he stated.
According to the police, the attacker used an AR-15 rifle.
She did not fire her.22 caliber rifle, though she did own one.
The assailant has a history of mental health problems, according to officials, and was under an emergency detention order in 2016.
Moreno has a lengthy history of arrests and convictions for assault, drug possession, and weapons offenses, according to public records.
She had earlier went by a number of different names, including Jeffrey Escalante, and is recorded in official documents as both male and female.
During the press conference, the police identified her as a female Hispanic.
Authorities stated that they think she got into a family argument with her ex-husband’s family, which includes some Jewish people.
One of the biggest churches in the nation, Lakewood Church is led by well-known televangelist Joel Osteen.

Although Moreno’s relationship with the church is still being looked into, her mother reportedly attended Lakewood, according to the local television station KHOU.
The outlet further stated that Montgomery County court records suggest that church employees might have been questioned during Moreno’s acrimonious divorce and child custody proceedings.

At approximately 13:55, she proceeded to open fire inside the church’s hallway after showing her weapon to an unarmed security guard.

Fire was returned by a 28-year-old Houston police officer and a 38-year-old Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) agent who had been hired as church security while they were off duty.
The gunfight that followed saw several rounds fired, according to officials, before the attacker was “neutralized” and declared dead at 14:07.
Moreno was observed spraying “some type of substance on the ground,” according to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, but investigators have found it posed no threat no danger.
She told the two officers there was a bomb after she was shot, but when law enforcement searched her car and backpack, they discovered no explosives.
Adrian Herrera is the officer from his agency, according to TABC Chairman Kevin Lilly.
He praised the pair for remaining firm in the face of gunfire, saying, “What transpired yesterday was the epitome of bravery and heroism.
“They served as a barrier that separated worshippers from danger.

The 60-year-old televangelist Mr. Osteen assumed leadership of one of the nation’s most well-known megachurches following the passing of his father, the founding pastor of Lakewood.
The Houston Rockets were once housed in the 16,000-seat church formerly an NBA team, prior to renovations in the early 2000s.
The church has expanded under Mr. Osteen’s direction, attracting 45,000 weekly in-person attendees in addition to thousands more who watch on television and the internet.
