Following an emotional court hearing in which survivors of the school shooting discussed their trauma, a Michigan judge sentenced school shooter Ethan Crumbly to multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole on Friday.
On November 30, 2021, at Oxford High School, Crumbly who was 15 years old at the time, killed four people and injured seven more. Admitted guilt to every charge.
He acknowledged guilt and expressed regret for his acts during the hearing.
“I request that you impose on me any sentence that they request,” he uttered.
“I want them to feel safe and secure, and I want them to be happy. They shouldn’t have to worry about it anymore.
29 persons in all made victim statements during the hearing.
including the victims’ parents, the school’s students, and employees.
Tate’s father, Buck Myre, said, “Our family has been navigating our way through complete hell.” Tate was killed in the shooting. “We carry the pain with us every day, like a thick coat.
” The darkest part of the day occurs at every hour.
“We are not happy. We are missing Tate,” he went on. “There is a permanent hole in our family that will never be filled.”

Every victim, upon request, was granted life without the possibility of parole.
Trent Myer, Tate Myer’s brother, stated during the hearing, “This coward took these actions knowing the consequences and effects it would have on people and this community.” “He took four lives away out of selfishness.”
“He ought to never possess the chance to once more see the light,” he continued. “By taking those four lovely souls’ lives, he forfeited his opportunity and right.”
The survivors described feeling deeply guilty for the people who lost their lives and continuously battling their fear of danger in the future.
“The course of my life has completely changed,” survivor Kylie Osage stated. But honor, I will not allow one person’s cowardly actions to affect the remainder of my life. .. I am the strongest person I know, so no one can ever take away my happiness.”

Crumble’s guardian and legal representative argued on his behalf that he had changed since the 2021 shooting and urged that he be granted the chance for parole. Even Crumbly himself said a few words.
“I am a truly horrible person. I have committed horrible acts that no one ought to ever commit. I’ve harmed a lot of people, lied, and been unreliable, Crumbly admitted. “I don’t dispute it. That is not my intention. .. I do intend to improve. I’m not sure if you’ll accept that.
Due to their alleged careless handling of firearms, Crumble’s parents were both charged with involuntary manslaughter for the shooting. After leaving the state, they were taken into custody.
The parents’ appeal against the charges was turned down. The trial is scheduled to begin on January 23.
