Regarding former President Trump’s recent remarks about becoming a dictator for a day if reelected in 2024, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Monday that voters should take him “for his word.”

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) wrote on X, the former Twitter platform, saying, “Trump is now repeatedly saying he’s going to be a dictator on day one and I don’t think we should keep asking what that means.”

Clinton was responding to Schatz’s post. That’s his meaning.

Clinton responded to X with the words, “Take him at his word,” in five words.

Trump faced criticism earlier this month after telling Sean Hannity of Fox News during a town hall in Iowa “Except for day one,” he had no intention of becoming a dictator if reelected to the presidency.

“You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?” he asks. Aside from the first day, I replied, no, no, no. Along with closing the border, we’re also drilling nonstop. I’m not a dictator after that,” Trump said.

Hannity had questioned the outgoing president about his intentions to “abuse power, to break the law, to use the government to go after people” in the event that he was reelected.

Trump later reaffirmed his statements and stressed that he only wants to be a “dictator for one day” in order to help secure the southern border and increase energy production in response to criticism from some Democrats and even some Republicans U.S.

The comment seemed to be mostly disregarded by Republicans; a former White House official told The Hill that the outcry caused by Trump’s words “plays into his hands.”

The official contended that Trump’s “us against them” narrative is strengthened and his influence within the Republican Party is increased by the relentless media coverage and the ire of Democrats.

In recent weeks, Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential contest, has poked fun at her former political opponent.

Clinton referred to Trump as a “puppet” in a Sunday repost of a Washington Post article about his recent quotation of Russian President Vladimir Putin at a campaign rally.

With his pledge to end the conflict in a day, without involving Russia, Trump has stoked concerns that he will support Putin’s war against Ukraine excluding the possibility of pressuring Ukraine to give Russia some land.

Clinton addressed a Rolling Stone article last month that included purportedly private conversations in which Trump stated he believed he could run for president in 2024 as a “moderate” on abortion in another post on X.

“Does he believe that women will fall for this?” Clinton composed a letter.
