Following weeks of a thorough police investigation into his suspected drug use, Lee Sun-kyun, a well-known South Korean actor best known for his part in the Oscar-winning film “Parasite,” was discovered dead in a car in Seoul on Wednesday, according to authorities.

When police and emergency personnel first discovered Lee in the car parked on a street in northern Seoul, they thought he was unconscious.

The Seongbuk police station in Seoul claims that after some time, emergency personnel verified his death.

Following a report that Lee, 48, was missing, Seongbuk police said they had been looking for him.

They declined to say anything more, not even if they had concluded Lee committed suicide.

However, South according to Korean media, including Yonhap News Agency, Lee’s family informed police earlier on Wednesday that he had left home after penning a note that appeared to be a suicide note.

Lee starred in the film “Parasite,” which took home three other Oscars in 2020 in addition to the best picture Oscar. In the 92-year history of the Academy Awards, the class satire became the first non-English film to win best picture.

It was also the first South Korean film to win an Oscar. Lee portrayed the head of a prosperous family in the movie.

For his performance in the same movie, he was given a Screen Actors Guild award in 2021 for being “cast in a motion picture.”

For his role in, he received an International Emmy Award nomination for best actor last year’s sci-fi thriller “Dr. Brain” as well.

Lee had a long history of popularity as an actor in South Korea even prior to “Parasite.” His breakthrough performance was in the popular TV drama series “Coffee Prince (2007).

” He later became well-known in the general public through the medical dramas “Behind The White Tower (2007),” “Pasta (2010),” and “My Mister (2018).”

Police had conducted investigations into Lee’s alleged use of illegal drugs at a bar hostess’ home. There was a lot of tabloid coverage of the probe. Yonhap reported that Lee maintained he was duped into taking the drugs and had no idea what he was taking.
