President Biden Announces: $8.2 Billion in New Grants for Pipeline and High-Speed Rail Projects
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) today announced that it has granted $8.2 billion for ten passenger rail projects throughout the nation, along with the announcement of corridor planning initiatives that will have an effect on every region in the country.
This massive investment in America’s intercity passenger rail network expands upon the $16.4 billion in national significance projects along the country’s busiest rail corridor that was announced last month.
The Biden-Harris administration has so far committed almost $30 billion in funding for the country’s rail network.
The Federal State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail (Fed-State National) Program has announced projects that will fund upgrades to current rail infrastructure and advance two high-speed rail corridors.

corridors for improved performance and services. These financial commitments will assist in providing the Central Valley of California with high-speed rail service.
Build a brand-new high-speed rail line that would connect southern California with Las Vegas, Nevada, and carry an estimated 11 million passengers yearly.
Enhance the Northeast Corridor by significantly connecting Northern Virginia and the Southeast with the current conventional rail corridors.

Increase the length and frequency of the Pennsylvania Keystone Corridor, which connects Pittsburgh and Philadelphia
Expand North Carolina’s Piedmont Corridor to the north as part of a faster link between Raleigh and Richmond, Virginia.
Investing in Chicago Union Station is the first step toward enhancing this important hub for Midwest corridors in the future.
Enhanced services in Alaska, Montana, and Maine
“Today, the Biden-Harris administration makes a billion for faster, more reliable, expanded train service across the country.”
“With this funding, we’ll announce a comprehensive plan that makes it easier to expand passenger rail lines in 44 states, complete significant upgrades for riders in Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Maine, Montana, and Alaska, and deliver America’s first high-speed rail on a route significant advancement to provide U.S.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stated, “The passenger rail system that Americans have been calling for – with $8.2 between Southern California and Las Vegas.”
Simultaneously, the FRA is announcing the Corridor Identification and Development (Corridor ID) Program, which will spearhead future passenger rail expansion, and 69 corridor selections spread across 44 states.
President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law made possible a new planning program called Corridor ID, which will aid in directing national development of intercity passenger rail.

By upgrading 15 current rail routes, adding or extending service on 47 new routes, and advancing 7 new high-speed rail projects, this first round of selections seeks to build a pipeline of intercity passenger rail projects that are prepared for investment and eventual implementation.
FRA will collaborate closely with host and operating railroads, states, transportation agencies, and local governments to design and construct passenger rail projects more quickly than in the past.
“With the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law signed by President Biden, we have a once-in-a-generation chance to think strategically and ambitiously about the future of rail in America.
We are utilizing all available resources to advance world-class passenger rail services across the country,” stated FRA Administrator Amit Bose.
Today’s Declaration is an Additional Action
As we move forward with revolutionary projects that will transport Americans for many years to come and give them easy, environmentally friendly alternatives to clogged highways and airports.
We’re also planning thoroughly and methodically to change the intercity passenger rail system in the United States both now and in the future.
The following are some instances of planning and development initiatives chosen by the Corridor ID program:
In the Cascadia High-Speed Rail Corridor connecting British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon, there will be new high-speed rail service.
New high-speed rail service connecting Houston and Dallas Midwest Chicago hub corridors, updated and new daily service from Chicago to Indianapolis on multiple frequencies increased frequency service to Madison, Wisconsin from Chicago, Milwaukee, and the Twin Cities.

Higher frequencies and better service from Chicago to Detroit and, if extended, to Windsor, offering a direct link to the high-speed rail system in Canada.
All corridors and long-distance trains south and east of Chicago would benefit from a comprehensive plan for the Chicago terminal and service chokepoints south of Lake Michigan.
There’s new service between Duluth, Minnesota, and the Twin Cities.
The Fort Collins to Pueblo, Colorado route has been extended, with stops in between at Boulder, Denver, and Colorado Springs.
Billion in New Grants for Pipeline and High-Speed Rail Projects
A new daily frequency service has been added between Tucson, Arizona, and Phoenix new service that links Louisiana’s Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
New links between Northern Delaware, Reading, and Scranton, Pennsylvania, and the Northeast Corridor
increased frequencies and connections within California’s vast conventional rail network.
Increased service and connections in Florida’s intercity rail system between the major travel destinations: Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa.
New service via Chattanooga from Atlanta to Nashville and Memphis, as well as between Atlanta and Savanah
Restoring passenger rail service between Chicago and Seattle, Washington, via a number of rural North Dakota and Montana communities that are currently unserved.
President Biden has already announced the largest investment in passenger rail since Amtrak’s founding, two years after he signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

This includes billion-dollar grants from the Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail for projects on the busiest rail corridor in the country, the Northeast, as well as other projects across the country.
In addition to the rail initiatives that were previously announced this year, such as the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) grants and the new Railroad Crossing Elimination (RCE) program grants, President.
The foundation for the secure and cutting-edge rail system that Americans demand and deserve is being laid by Biden’s Investing in America Agenda.
