Sunday December 25th PM: Storm Center Update for Christmas Now.
The majority of KELOLAND is still dealing with a number of problems from the massive winter storm.
We’re seeing a mix of rain, freezing rain, and sleet as of Monday afternoon, with the greatest concentration east of the James River, though Sioux Falls and I-29 are also included.
We are concerned that as strong north winds add to the wintry mix later today, the already difficult travel conditions will get much worse.
The entire state of South Dakota is experiencing winter weather.
Much of central and northern South Dakota has been covered in snow. Early in the event, as of 1 pm, amounts reported were 2 in many locations in central and northeastern South Dakota, as well as Aberdeen and Pierre. Grey Goose in Hughes County made a 4-star check-in Gann Valley also did so.
There will be a lot of travel-related concerns for the remainder of the day and into tomorrow. So far, only minor adjustments have been made to the timing and location because the low pressure system causing this stormy mess is drifting slightly closer to us from the east as it passes through Iowa and Minnesota.

This explains why Sioux Falls and the areas east of I-29 have seen slightly more liquid rain. However, later on, we anticipate that to change.
Although the accumulation of snow has been a little slow today, we anticipate that this will change as the system strengthens and the rate of snowfall rises.
