Supreme Court:2 Illinois Assault Weapons Ban is Once Again
On Thursday, the Illinois ban on assault weapons and magazines with a large capacity was not overturned by the Supreme Court.
Why this matters The move to stop the law’s enforcement, which is scheduled to go into effect on January 1, was denied by the high court for the second time.
In summary, the 7th District U.S. Court of Appeals in Chicago decided last month to sustain the law, rejecting the claim of a gun rights organization that it ought to be blocked due to Second Amendment infractions.
Last August, the Illinois Supreme Court affirmed the legislation as well.
Notably, there were no dissenting opinions expressed in the Supreme Court’s order on Thursday.
The owner of a gun store and a gun rights organization requested an emergency order.
to obstruct the application of the law in this instance submitted a similar request in May, which was turned down.

Background: During a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park last year, a gunman used an assault rifle that he had lawfully purchased to kill seven people and injure numerous others.
This led to the passage of legislation.
Numerous assault weapons, including the AR-15-style weapon used by the gunman in Highland Park, are prohibited from being sold.
Additionally, the law restricts the sale of high-capacity magazines, mandates that current owners of the prohibited weapons register them with state police, and expedites the process of universal background checks.
