According to authorities, David Nathaniel Barron, 40, passed away.

Pictures released on Sunday by the Ocala Police Department purport to identify the suspect in the shooting at the Paddock Mall the day before, which left a woman hurt and a man dead.

Officers who arrived at the mall at 3:40 p.m. initially reported it as a “active shooter situation.”

According to a news release, on Saturday it was discovered that although there was no active shooter, there had still been shooting inside the building.

Police have now identified the man who was shot to death in a public area as David Nathaniel Barron, 40, and have taken the shot woman to a hospital for non-life-threatening injury care, according to the press release.

Barron, according to Cicely Robertson, was her tattoo artist. Friends called him “Dirty,” according to her.

“Dirty was a kind individual,” Robertson remarked he was giving and loving.

He would give you his entire back in shirts he was always someone you could go to for support and motivation to do the right thing, as well as someone who would take care of you.

The gunman fled, according to the police, and they added that they thought the incident might have been targeted.

In a statement released on Sunday afternoon, the department stated that it had obtained an arrest warrant for 39-year-old Albert J. Shell Jr. in connection with the shooting’s attempted and premeditated first-degree murders. This update brought with it what seem to be two of Shell’s earlier mug shots, which are accessible at the story’s header.

Barron was a father, Robertson said She remarked, “It’s just terrible that these kids have to spend Christmas without their father.”

According to Syriah Williams, a witness at the scene who spoke with News 6 and recorded footage on her cellphone after the shooting started, “chaos erupted” at the mall when shots were fired two days before Christmas, during a busy time for holiday shopping.

Employees at Bath & Body Works, according to Williams, unlocked a back door to assist people in getting away.

When investigators worked the scene on Saturday night, the mall was evacuated and closed. Eventually, the parking lots were opened again up to let individuals pick up their cars while companies stayed closed.

According to the release, other agencies that responded to the shooting included the Florida Highway Patrol, Ocala Fire Rescue, Marion County Fire Rescue, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

News 6 was able to obtain additional witness footage on Sunday, which depicts the chaos that ensued inside the mall following the shooting.

Ocala police posted a demand on social media on Sunday, stating that “the person who took the shooter’s red hat” should come forward right away and give the item of clothing.

“This person tampered with crucial evidence by taking the shooter’s red hat from the crime scene at the Paddock Mall,” the department said in part when releasing the person’s photo. There could be important DNA evidence in that hat.
This was in line with the department’s sharing early on Sunday, surveillance stills featuring a man wearing a red hat and identifying him as a person of interest in the shooting were captured.
