Suspect Kentucky : Highway Shooting In 2024 Now
Suspect in the Kentucky highway shooting is thought to have been found dead.
According to police, they think they have located the remains of a suspected shooter who about two weeks ago inflicted five injuries on victims during a highway shooting spree in Kentucky.
Authorities announced in a press conference on Wednesday night that the body was discovered during the manhunt in Laurel County, along with accessories that have helped investigators determine it is that of suspect Joseph Couch.
Since September 7th, when Mr. Couch, 32, is said to have shot at cars on Interstate 75 before vanishing into the isolated area, authorities have been looking for him.
Official identification of the remains is still pending, according to the police.
The body was discovered shortly after 15:30 local time (20:30 BST), according to officials, when two state troopers and two civilians encountered one another while looking for the suspect.
Vultures were circling around, drawing officials and residents alike to the spot.
According to police, it’s unclear how long the body been in the wooded area or how the victim passed away.
They stated that in order to ascertain the cause of death, they intend to conduct an autopsy.
There was also an unidentified weapon discovered there.
Authorities and members of the local community have been scouring about 28,000 acres (43 sq miles) of the untamed and isolated region close to the incident site.
John Root, the sheriff for Laurel County, stated on Wednesday that “people have been in fear.”
Since that isn’t typical in Laurel County, I hope that our county will take action now that this has been identified can return to their regular routine.”
Situated in southeast Kentucky, the location is roughly nine miles (14 km) away from the city of London.
Fred and Sheila McCoy are a livestreaming pair who were among the two individuals that assisted in locating Mr. Couch’s possible remains.
The two might be rewarded with a total of $25,000 (£18,900) if they assist investigators in their work.

During the shooting spree, Mr. Couch is accused of hitting twelve cars going in both directions on the highway.
Even though all five victims made it out of the incident unscathed, three of them—including one who was shot in the face—suffered from severe injuries.
Sources stated last week that Mr. Couch intended to injure people in texts he sent just prior to the shooting.
He texted, “I’m going to kill a lot of people,” based on a Laurel County Sheriff’s Office arrest document. “Well (I’m going to) try at least.”
According to officials, Mr. Couch’s family cooperated with the search.
Throughout the early stages of the manhunt, local schools were closed.
