Troops said that since the woman is still missing, the search will pick back up on Tuesday during the day.

One of the dogs ran into the North Fork Eagle River Trail on Saturday afternoon while the woman and the man were strolling their dogs along the trail troopers said it was open water.

According to troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel, when the couple entered the river to look for the dog, the woman submerged herself but never came back to the surface.

Since most of the local river has frozen over, authorities think she was washed beneath the ice and carried downstream, he said.

The troopers said the man was not hurt.

In addition to the Anchorage police and fire departments, an Alaska Wildlife Trooper assisted in a ground search, and a Department of Public Safety helicopter conducted an aerial search in the immediate area where she went missing on Saturday, according to troopers.

The Alaska Dive Search, Rescue and Recovery Team was called in, but it was decided to deploy on Sunday when there would be enough daylight to minimize safety risks operate safely.
