Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) claimed that the former president’s rhetoric is “poisoning our country” in response to his recent remark that immigrants were “poisoning the blood” of the nation.

In a post on X, the website that was formerly known as Twitter, Murkowski stated, “With the exception of Alaska Natives and Native Peoples, most of us are daughters and sons of immigrants who came to this country to build a better life for themselves and their families.”

“Remarks made by the former president couldn’t be further from the truth, and legal immigration from people all over the world is woven into the fabric of American exceptionalism,” she continued.

“More divisive, harmful rhetoric from Donald Trump is destroying our nation.”

A small group of Republicans, including Murkowski, have denounced Trump’s statements from last Saturday’s rally in New Hampshire, during which he asserted that immigrants were “pouring into” the country and “poisoning the blood of our country.”

They are entering our nation from all over the world. From Asia, from Africa, from all over the world,” Trump remarked, implying that an increase in crime and terrorism would result from the migration.

Trump posted on Truth Social later on Saturday, saying, “Immigration is poisoning the blood of our nation.”

Democrats, the Biden campaign, and Vice President Harris all compared Trump’s remarks to those of Adolf Hitler, claiming that Trump’s language was akin to that of the Nazi leader.

Trump disputed the Hitler analogy and restated his remarks during a speech on Tuesday at an Iowa rally.

“They are ruining our nation’s blood.” They are acting in that manner. They are ruining our nation. Trump remarked in Iowa, “They don’t like it when I say that—and I never read ‘Mein Kampf,'” referring to Hitler’s manifesto.

Republicans in the Senate seemed shocked by the remarks, with some saying the former president’s tone was excessive.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) attacked Trump on Tuesday, citing the fact that in 2016, the then-president nominated his Taiwanese American wife, Elaine Chao, to the position of secretary of transportation.

The second-ranking Republican senator, Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.), told The Hill that Trump’s comments went too far, although he also noted that a number of Republicans concur the number of immigrants poses a serious threat to national security through the southern border.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) stated she disagrees with the remarks, while Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) stated he believes “it’s unhelpful rhetoric.”

Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), among other Republicans, seemed to minimize Trump’s remarks by emphasizing the issues with border security. On Tuesday, Vance maintained that the former president was alluding to the way illegal drugs entering the country are contaminating Americans.
