Seven days into the temporary cease-fire agreement, there has been no word from Qatar, the mediator, regarding an extension. Shortly after the cease-fire expired on Friday morning, Israel recommenced hostilities in Gaza and charged Hamas with breaking the agreement.

During the truce, more than 100 hostages were released the majority of them seem physically fine but shaken. Israel claims that about 125 men are still being held captive.

The majority of the 240 Palestinians freed under the cease-fire were teenagers who had been charged with using firebombs and stones against Israeli forces.

Though there was international pressure to maintain the truce for as long as possible, the agreement that started on November 24 ended after a week and several extensions.

Over three-quarters of Gaza’s 2.3 million inhabitants have been forced to flee their homes due to weeks of Israeli bombardment and a ground campaign, creating a humanitarian crisis.

According to the Health Ministry in Gaza, which is ruled by Hamas, over 13,300 Palestinians have died, with almost two-thirds of them being women and children.

The ministry does not distinguish between combatants and civilians. Almost 1,200 Israelis have lost their lives in the conflict, the most of them came from Hamas’s lethal attack on Israel on October 7.

According to Hamas, fighters from its group and other factions will pick up their weapons once more and “will break the will of the defeated occupation army.”

Israel is allegedly warning Palestinians to leave some areas of southern Gaza

Gaza Strip’s DEIR AL-BALAH — A temporary truce that ended on Friday was violated by Israeli warplanes, according to the Interior Ministry in the territory controlled by Hamas.

According to the ministry, airstrikes struck parts of southern Gaza, including the village of Abassan, which is east of the town of Khan Younis. Northwest of Gaza City, a house was struck by another strike.

On Friday, and minutes later, Israel’s military declared that it had started fighting again in Gaza. Israel declared that Hamas had broken the cease-fire.

The fighting stopped on November 24. With the assistance of Qatar and fellow mediator Egypt, it was initially scheduled to last four days, but was later extended for several days.
